International Women’s Day 2026 Message- From H.E. Lordina Dramani Mahama First Lady of the Republic of Ghana.
As we observe International Women’s Day 2026, I encourage every Ghanaian to reflect on what you will Give to Gain gender equality.
Will you mentor a young woman starting her own business? Will you advocate for your daughter’s education as passionately as you do for your son’s? Will you support policies that promote equal opportunities in your workplace and community?
Always remember that investing in women brings benefits. When women succeed, families flourish, communities thrive, and the nation advances.
I am reminded of the profound Akan proverb: “Se wo were fi na wosan kofa a yenkyiri”; when you forget something and go back for it, it is not forbidden.
Together, we must go back and lift every woman and girl we may have left behind, for in their rise, Ghana rises. When we provide opportunities for our market women in Makola, mentorship for our young tech entrepreneurs in Accra, or training for our shea butter producers in the Northern Region, we don’t diminish our resources—we multiply our nation’s prosperity.
I am proud of the progress our country has achieved, including increased interest in and enrollment of girls in STEM education, support for women farmers through cooperative strengthening, and the rise of more women leaders in district assemblies, the corporate sector, and boardrooms.
Yet there is still more to be done. Many talented girls continue to drop out of school, capable women still lack access to funding, and many voices are still missing from decision-making processes.
The Affirmative Action Bill has created opportunities, and initiatives such as the Women’s Development Bank by the Mahama administration will support thousands of female entrepreneurs across our country.
Our mothers and grandmothers gave us rich traditions of communal support through “nnoboa” and “susu”. We must channel that same spirit toward achieving true gender equality.
Give to Gain!
God bless our homeland, Ghana!
Ghana!

He further informed residents that GPSNP II has officially been extended from 31st December 2025 to 31st December 2026, to enable the Ministry and its implementing partners to clear outstanding payments and complete all stalled sub-projects.
The extension, he noted, is good news for beneficiary communities in Afadzato South, including Ve Gbodome, Ve Deme and Have Adzekorfe, as it will help protect livelihoods and support ongoing local development initiatives.

VE GOLOKUATI WATER CRISIS BEING RESOLVED AFTER SEVEN YEARS
Efforts to provide potable water to Ve Golokuati, the capital of the Afadzato South District in the Volta Region, are finally yielding results, following decisive leadership and strong collaboration among key stakeholders.
In June 2025, the District Chief Executive (DCE) received the Chiefs and Elders of Ve Golokuati at the District Assembly during a courtesy call, where they raised serious concerns over the community’s seven-year struggle to connect to the Ghana Water system from Kpando Municipality. Despite the community’s own efforts to raise funds to support the project, the long-delayed water connection had not materialised.
The Chiefs appealed to the DCE to intervene, describing the situation as urgent and distressing. A report from the Ghana Health Service in Afadzato South further highlighted the severity of the problem, indicating that Ve Golokuati was leading the Volta Region in recorded typhoid cases.
The report attributed the situation largely to the use of unsafe water sources, making the crisis both a development challenge and a serious public health concern.
In response, the DCE assured the traditional authorities that the water crisis would be resolved within six months through effective collaboration. The Chiefs and Elders, in turn, pledged their full support to the DCE and the governing party upon the successful delivery of the project.
To fulfil this commitment, the DCE engaged contractors and held meetings with community members to provide updates on progress, address concerns, and manage expectations. These engagements helped pave the way for the commencement of construction works.
Today, that promise is being fulfilled in line with the Reset/Resettling Agenda of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, which prioritises equitable access to basic social services, improved living conditions, and dignity for all communities. With the support of the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu; the Member of Parliament, Hon. Frank Afriyie; and contractors led by Mr. Vitus Agbesi Nutsu, work is currently ongoing to connect Ghana Water from Kpando Municipality to Ve Golokuati.
Pipes are being laid and technical installations are actively underway. Upon completion, households and institutions in Ve Golokuati will have access to clean, safe, and reliable potable water.
What remained unresolved for seven years has been achieved within just six months, underscoring the impact of responsive leadership, effective coordination, and strong community cooperation. The project marks a major milestone for Ve Golokuati and reflects a broader commitment to transforming service delivery across the Afadzato South District.
