The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afadzato South, Hon. Manfred Tawiah, has expressed gratitude to the people of the area for their overwhelming support in returning the party to power in the 2024 general elections.
Addressing residents during Dunenyo Za at Leklebi Wobey, Hon. Tawiah assured them that concrete measures are underway to address the persistent electricity challenges in the community. Plans have been initiated to provide solar-powered energy solutions to improve access to reliable electricity.
He further announced that, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament (MP), feasibility and visibility studies will be conducted for the construction of a suitable access road to Wobey, aimed at improving connectivity and boosting socio-economic activities.

VE GOLOKUATI WATER CRISIS BEING RESOLVED AFTER SEVEN YEARS
Efforts to provide potable water to Ve Golokuati, the capital of the Afadzato South District in the Volta Region, are finally yielding results, following decisive leadership and strong collaboration among key stakeholders.
In June 2025, the District Chief Executive (DCE) received the Chiefs and Elders of Ve Golokuati at the District Assembly during a courtesy call, where they raised serious concerns over the community’s seven-year struggle to connect to the Ghana Water system from Kpando Municipality. Despite the community’s own efforts to raise funds to support the project, the long-delayed water connection had not materialised.
The Chiefs appealed to the DCE to intervene, describing the situation as urgent and distressing. A report from the Ghana Health Service in Afadzato South further highlighted the severity of the problem, indicating that Ve Golokuati was leading the Volta Region in recorded typhoid cases.
The report attributed the situation largely to the use of unsafe water sources, making the crisis both a development challenge and a serious public health concern.
In response, the DCE assured the traditional authorities that the water crisis would be resolved within six months through effective collaboration. The Chiefs and Elders, in turn, pledged their full support to the DCE and the governing party upon the successful delivery of the project.
To fulfil this commitment, the DCE engaged contractors and held meetings with community members to provide updates on progress, address concerns, and manage expectations. These engagements helped pave the way for the commencement of construction works.
Today, that promise is being fulfilled in line with the Reset/Resettling Agenda of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, which prioritises equitable access to basic social services, improved living conditions, and dignity for all communities. With the support of the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu; the Member of Parliament, Hon. Frank Afriyie; and contractors led by Mr. Vitus Agbesi Nutsu, work is currently ongoing to connect Ghana Water from Kpando Municipality to Ve Golokuati.
Pipes are being laid and technical installations are actively underway. Upon completion, households and institutions in Ve Golokuati will have access to clean, safe, and reliable potable water.
What remained unresolved for seven years has been achieved within just six months, underscoring the impact of responsive leadership, effective coordination, and strong community cooperation. The project marks a major milestone for Ve Golokuati and reflects a broader commitment to transforming service delivery across the Afadzato South District.

The celebration, held at Nyagbo Agodome, highlighted the district’s progress in improving sanitation and promoting healthy living.
World Toilet Day serves as a reminder that access to safe and clean toilets is not just a basic amenity but a fundamental pillar of dignity, public health, and sustainable development. This year’s global theme, “We Will Always Need a Toilet,” underscored the enduring importance of sanitation in building resilient communities.
Speaking at the event, the Regional Minister emphasized the need for hygiene and cleanliness to become an everyday culture rather than a seasonal activity.
He urged residents across the region to adopt good sanitation habits as part of their lifestyle, noting that cleanliness is essential to community wellbeing. The achievement of ODF status by the eight communities was attributed to the collective effort of traditional authorities, assembly members, Natural Leaders, Environmental Health Officers, and committed residents. The Minister commended the District Chief Executive, Hon. Manfred Tawiah, the District Assembly, and all households that contributed to the milestone.
Special recognition was also given to the Regional Environmental Health Officer, Madam Stella Kumedzro, and her team for their tireless work in driving sanitation initiatives across the district.
